Brown University’s Facilities Management team branches out across campus to carefully steward and add to nearly 2,500 trees on and around College Hill in the face of threats from pests, disease and climate.

Brown selected the accomplished architecture firm based largely on its skill and expertise in creating active indoor athletics projects on other campuses.

University leaders hosted a special celebration to recognize key project partners, skilled craft workers who dedicated hundreds of thousands of hours to the planning, design and construction of the state-of-the-art venue.

Pending approval from the City of Providence, the University plans to build a new laboratory space for cutting-edge life sciences research and boost its athletics program with a proposed new indoor training facility.

Thanks to a generous donation, Brown’s LGBTQ Center significantly expands space, programming and resources for the University’s queer community with its new location, known as Stonewall House.

The name for the center, set to open in 2023, honors Brown Corporation member Frayda Lindemann and her late husband, George Lindemann Sr., a longtime University supporter, business executive and art collector.

To celebrate the topping-off of its future hub for performing arts scholarship, University leaders joined construction workers and key project partners for a live-streamed virtual ceremony complete with on-site drone footage.

The under-construction center and residence hall on Brook Street in Providence remains on track to bring the University’s health and wellness programs under one roof as early as Spring 2021.

The two 19th-century buildings are now unified by two modern glass bridges and a light-filled “loggia,” uniting faculty, staff and students from Brown’s Department of History.

New York-based architecture firm REX designed an academic and cultural building that is technologically sophisticated, highly flexible and adaptable to multiple art forms, yet intimate in scale and feel.

With generous support from the family of Duncan MacMillan and from Barry Sternlicht and Mimi Reichert Sternlicht, and with architect selection underway, the University’s vision for an integrated, state-of-the-art health and wellness center and residence hall is on a path toward realization.

After years of private-public partnership to transform the long-vacant former South Street Power Station into a mixed-used development, Brown’s relocation of 400 staff members brings new vibrancy to its Jewelry District campus.

With support from the Richard A. and Susan P. Friedman Family Foundation, the University will launch a comprehensive renovation to create new classrooms, add social spaces and make the building fully accessible.
