Lassonde Innovation and Design Hub
Architect: Page Architects
Contractor: Shawmut Design and Construction
Anticipated Completion: Winter 2027
Located at 355 Brook Street in Providence, Rhode Island, the Prince Engineering Laboratory was built in 1962 as the first building at Brown University dedicated exclusively to engineering. It is now set to be transformed into an Innovation and Design Hub (IDH).
The Lassonde Innovation and Design Hub will be a vibrant, interdisciplinary resource that will support hands-on learning and collaborative exploration across Brown’s campus. The LIDH is expected to serve students from a wide range of academic backgrounds, enabling makers, engineers, entrepreneurs, and artists to work together to address complex challenges from multiple perspectives. The project aims to transform the existing makerspace into a dynamic ecosystem equipped with diverse tools and technologies to foster experiential learning for students, faculty, and the broader community.
Work will begin in January 2026. The anticipated completion date is December 2027.
